Solomons, Maryland, August 8, 2007 – Every day, rivet by rivet, a new vision is taking shape at Annmarie Garden.  With each length of steel that is added to the developing structure, a better picture emerges of what the new 15,000 sq. ft. arts building will look like.  “It is like watching a sculptor create a work of art,” says Garden Director Stacey Hann-Ruff, “with each passing day you get a clearer picture of what the artist has in mind.”

Since breaking ground on the building this past January [2007], visitors have been curious about the construction project in the middle of the Garden.  Many have returned each week to see the progress and children seem to be particularly mesmerized by the cement trucks and cranes. Dedicated to providing a variety of fun and engaging activities, the new building will become the heart of Annmarie Garden and include two galleries, a café, gift shop, meeting space, and offices.  A flexible floor plan will allow a broad range of uses, including exhibits, special events, children and family programs, classes, and social gatherings.  With a gift shop, café space, and full catering kitchen, the building will also be a great place for the community to gather for social occasions.  “The goal is to create a lively environment for creativity and fun,” states Ruff.

A brand new building is not all that is being planned.  The old Garden office building will be converted into a community art school.  The school will offer small scale classes and workshops on a variety of subjects in a family-friendly style.  The curriculum will include a variety of affordable options for families with children, as well as opportunities for adults.
