Art for All Seasons: Landscapes of the American Chestnut Land Trust is the culmination of a year of local artists creating plein air works of art depicting the beautiful landscapes found throughout the American Chestnut Land Trust's preserved lands surrounding Parkers Creek in Calvert County, Maryland.
ACLT is a member-supported nonprofit whose mission is to promote land conservation and preservation throughout Southern Maryland. Since its inception in 1986, ACLT has helped to preserve over 3800 acres in the Parkers Creek and Governors Run watersheds. ACLT connects people to the land via 25+ miles of trails that run through dense forests, farm fields and meadows, and along gurgling streams. ACLT also supports the food-insecure members of the local community by donating produce raised at its Double Oak Farm to the local food bank. Proceeds from the exhibition will allow ACLT to continue its mission for the benefit of this and future generations.
Annmarie After Hours Reception: October 11, 5-7pm.
Timber: Contemporary Woodcraft
Juror: Rick Pelasara - Assistant Director of Exhibit Production, Emeritus, Smithsonian Institution
This exhibition seeks to celebrate the diverse and innovative ways that contemporary artists harness the versatility of wood as a medium for artistic expression. From utilizing traditional woodworking techniques (carving, turning, whittling, inlay, joinery, steam-bending, etc.) for furniture making and sculpture, to 2-D working methods like wood burning, to avant-garde installations fabricated with CNC machines and laser cutters, this exhibition aims to showcase all the creative ways artists engage with and manipulate wood to convey their narratives. We encourage artists to push the boundaries of both traditional and contemporary techniques to create captivating artworks.
This exhibition will be open to the public in the Kay Daugherty Gallery of Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center, from October 11, 2024, to January 20, 2025. We will host an Annmarie Afterhours opening reception for this exhibit on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 5-7 pm. Admission for the general public is $5.00. Admission for participating artists is free. Wine and beer will be available for purchase.
