Demas Family Discovery Garden
A peaceful stroll toward Annmarie’s waterfront leads to the Demas Family Discovery Garden, where children can learn about nature through firsthand observation and hands-on activities. Wildlife tiles by Southern Maryland artist Parran Collery introduce visitors to local plants and animals.
The garden was made possible through the generosity of the Demas Family, Maryland Heritage Area Authority, BuiltRite Home Developers, and Dominion Foundation / Dominion Cove Point LNG.
Tree-Mendous Trail
Get to know the trees of Annmarie Garden through art. Along the Tree-Mendous Trail, make bronze rubbings that reveal the distinctive shapes and textures of different leaves. Paper and crayons are available at the site.
Outdoor Reading Nook
Take a break beneath the trees, surrounded by the sound of wind chimes. Settle in with a book, or visit the story stones and let the kids arrange them into tales of their own.
Faces in the Trees
Keep your eyes on the trees as you wander. Hidden faces are waiting among the branches—how many can you find?
Tree Pops
Look closely: some trees hold a surprise. These playful glimpses of iconic works of art appear in unexpected places throughout the Garden.
Bluebird Boxes
Keep an eye out for the hand-painted bluebird boxes along the garden paths. Local artists and volunteers decorated the boxes as part of the Calvert Nature Society’s Bluebird Project, which helps maintain nesting trails across the county. They’re little works of art with a purpose: giving bluebirds a place to nest.
