May 9 2025 - Sep 21 2025
Gallery:
Kay Daugherty Gallery

JUROR- Dr. Margaret A. Weitekamp, Department Chair and Curator of the Space History Department, National Air and Space Museum

This exhibition invites viewers to explore visionary landscapes, fantastic cityscapes, and surreal dreamscapes crafted by contemporary artists. Blurring the boundaries between reality and imagination, the exhibition will showcase artwork that transports audiences to new and unexpected realms. Each piece serves as a portal into an artist’s unique, invented world, inspiring wonder, and curiosity. There is a heavy emphasis on worlds created by artists as opposed to preexisting fictional universes.

This exhibition will be open to the public in the Kay Daugherty Gallery of Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center, from May 9, 2025, to September 21, 2025.

16th Annual Fairies in the Garden Outdoor Exhibit

Come explore this charming outdoor exhibit of more than 100 handmade houses scattered throughout the trails and woods of the garden.  Made by wonderfully creative artists from the community (and beyond), this exhibit features works in all media.

Annmarie After Hours Opening Reception - Friday, April 4, 5-7pm

Join us for an outdoor family-friendly opening of our most magicalicious exhibit.  All the houses will be displayed around the outside of the Arts Building. This is a great opportunity to see them all before they are scattered throughout the sculpture garden! Reservations are not required, just come. There will be a food truck, cash bar, and live music. Admission: free for members; $5 for adults, $3 for kids, free for age 2 & under.

Artists In Action 2025

Date:
Apr 3 2025 - Jun 1 2025
Gallery:
Main Gallery

Artists in Action provides visiting artists the opportunity to develop new artwork, network with other artists, display and sell their existing work in a gallery exhibit, and share their creative process with visitors. Through this program, our gallery is converted to temporary studio space, and artists are allowed to work in a beautiful setting. The sculpture park provides numerous locations for artists to work and find inspiration. Outdoor artists select days and times that fit their schedule and adjust as the weather dictates. Artists may work on any project they wish using our park as their workspace. The goal of the program is to provide artists with a safe opportunity to create and sell art while sharing the creative process with the public. Outdoor artists may move their space freely day to day, utilizing covered areas, patios, forests, paths, etc. Each week offers a different mix of artists and media, so visit often to see what's new!

Fragments: Reflections on Memory

Juried by Reiker Dean, Exhibition & Education Specialist, Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center

This exhibition seeks to explore how individual and collective memory can shape our identity and perception, influencing our understanding of the world around us. Whether through nostalgia, trauma, joy, or loss, memory intertwines with our daily lives and exists as a fluid, shifting narrative. We challenge artists to explore the fragmented nature of memory, its fluidity, distortions, and how the passage of time affects our perception of the past and present.

This exhibition will be open to the public in the Kay Daugherty Gallery of Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center, from February 21, 2025, to April 27, 2025. We are also excited to be hosting an Annmarie After Hours opening reception on February 21, 2025 from 5pm-7pm.

Artist's Statement:

I am a multi-disciplinary mixed media artist, educator and curator. I am a collage artist with an interest in materiality of paper, fabric and associated textiles. My practice includes graphic design, sewing, dying techniques and print making alongside acrylic painting. I enjoy the act of taking things apart and finding the new ways they come together to tell a story.

My design aesthetic leans into maximalism and finding vibration between the colors and patterns of fabric and paper used in my collages. I have an interest in depicting interior design and the ways that homes are reflected throughout history to communicate many things. Many of my pieces are rooted in a research practice. I am an avid fan of American history and lean into depicting mostly women in the Black American experience. My research functions as the back narrative for the images I choose to depict and the small details that may be hidden within. I consider my work cultural social anthropology, as I am documenting from within the community that I am studying to communicate the lived experience of American Descendants of the system of slavery.

Timber: Contemporary Woodcraft

Juror: Rick Pelasara - Assistant Director of Exhibit Production, Emeritus, Smithsonian Institution

This show celebrates the diverse and innovative ways that contemporary artists harness the versatility of wood as a medium for artistic expression. From utilizing traditional woodworking techniques (carving, turning, whittling, inlay, joinery, steam-bending, etc.) for furniture making and sculpture, to 2-D working methods like wood burning, to avant-garde installations fabricated with CNC machines and laser cutters, this exhibition aims to showcase all the creative ways artists engage with and manipulate wood to convey their narratives. Artists in 'Timber: Contemporary Woodcraft' have pushed the boundaries of both traditional and contemporary techniques by creating captivating wooden artworks.

This exhibition will be open to the public in the Kay Daugherty Gallery of Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center, from October 11, 2024, to January 20, 2025.
