Color & Light Society Spring Show & Sale 2018

Date:
Mar 9 2018 - Mar 25 2018
Gallery:
Main Gallery

Join us March 9-25, 2018 as we host Color & Light Society for a Show and Sale!

Annmarie After Hours - Opening Reception: Friday, March 9, 2018 5-8pm

The Color & Light Society began as an informal group of artists taking an advanced oil painting classes with Elizabeth Bygler of Leonardtown, Maryland. The group developed a passion for painting fueled by the belief that exhibiting one's art encouraged learning, development, and pride of original work. They began exhibiting their work in the Annmarie Garden Community Gallery in the early 2000's. After formalizing their organization in 2004, many more art students and other local artists joined the group. Today, there are 24 active artist members. The group has exploded into an artists' haven, showing an impressive variety of oils, watercolors, sculpture, photography and more multi-media. They have exhibited their work at a variety of venues across the region and can also be found at their booth at Artsfest, Annmarie’s annual fine arts festival held every September.

Jan 19 2018 - Feb 28 2018
Gallery:
Main Gallery

About Artists in Action 2018:

For a few special weeks, Annmarie’s spectacular Main Gallery will be transformed into artist studios, where visitors will have the opportunity to observe and interact with artists as they work. This exciting time at the Garden provides a unique retreat and experimental space for artists to develop new works, display and sell their work, to network with other artists, and to share their creative process. Over twenty artists working in a variety of mediums are scheduled to participate over the course of the event. Visitors will be able to watch, learn, ask questions, and in some cases, become engaged in an art project. The participating artists are encouraged to create a hands-on experience for guests, which may include an invitation to experiment with materials and/or process, or collaboration on an idea or design. Artists in Action is a wonderful opportunity to get an up close look at the working and creative process of an artist.

As part of the exhibition, artists' works will be available for purchase.

Kindred: Celebrating our Ancestors

Date:
Aug 11 2017 - Jan 28 2018
Gallery:
Kay Daughtery Gallery

This exhibit invites artists to celebrate the stories, people, and places that define them. Do you find meaning and a sense of connection in your family tree, or in those people you consider your kindred spirits? How do the tangible and intangible remnants of past lives speak to you today? For some, delving into one’s ancestry is the key to unlocking the mysteries of who and what you are. For others, creating a “family of choice” provides a sense of connection. However you imagine your family, we invite artists to celebrate how they are defined by the past, and the lives of those who have come before them.

"I was extremely honored to serve as Juror for the "Kindred:Celebrating Our Ancestors" art exhibit. As a professional folklorist, and a curator at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, I have worked with many people across the U.S. and the world who collect and express their family and community traditions in so many ways, including through visual art work in a wide array of media.  I was amazed by the range of creativity, heartfelt sentiment, and in many cases research that the works submitted for the show represented.  From photography, to collage, to sculpture, needlework and beyond, I felt that the works chosen for the show truly showcase how the connection to our ancestors can serve as a powerful muse for talented artists from near and far."

-Exhibition Juror:
Betty J. Belanus, Curator/Education Specialist
Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage
